Associate Professor Yvonne Bonomo

Associate Professor Yvonne Bonomo (MBBS, FRACP, PhD, FAChAM) is Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, University of Melbourne. She is the Director of the Department of Addiction Medicine at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, and Medical Head of the Women’s Alcohol and Drug Service (WADS) at the Royal Women’s Hospital Melbourne. Yvonne was a member of the Independent Medical Advisory Committee (IMAC) for Medicinal Cannabis to the State Government of Victoria.

Yvonne’s career has focused on promoting the advancement of knowledge and evidence, high levels of skill and expertise as well as ethical standards in the practice of Addiction Medicine. She has held numerous positions within Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), including in the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine (ACHAM) for which she was Chair of Education and later President. She consults on a number of public health initiatives in relation to alcohol and drugs.

Yvonne has published extensively in the area of substance use and addiction, particularly in relation to young people. She is an Expert Advisor to the World Health Organisation on Alcohol and Substance Use and Young People, was a member of the board of YSAS (Youth Support and Advocacy Service) and is a past board member of the Australian Drug Foundation.
